Regional Transportation & Health Study

Study Overview

In 2012, the Nashville Area MPO contracted Westat, GeoStats and Parson Brinkerhoff to conduct a regional study of transportation and health in Middle Tennessee. This included a comprehensive household travel survey which included a health and physical activity component for residents in the region. The report covers all of the counties in the MPO's planning area plus Cheatham, Dickson and Montgomery counties.

With a representative sample of 6,000 households in the study area, the survey collected demographic, household, basic health and travel information using address-based sample design.

Major Findings

Data were successfully collected for well over 6,300 households, 11,500 persons and 13,700 vehicles in the greater Nashville region. Survey information include household, vehicle, personal, travel, and health data.

Survey data is used to inform many of the MPO's studies and is used to update current and future transportation and land use models.
